A Message About Our Chief

Chief McClarty is a results-driven, dedicated law enforcement professional with over 25 years of law enforcement experience. He began his career in 1991 in Hutchinson, Kan., where he worked his way through the ranks: Police Officer, Narcotics Investigator, Sergeant, Detective, Sergeant/Training Coordinator and Professional Standards Lieutenant. During his career he filled the role of Tactical Officer, Team Leader and Team Commander for the Reno County Emergency Response Team. In 2011, Chief McClarty accepted the Chief of Police position in McPherson. After nearly six years serving in this role, he is recognized as an accomplished administrator with extensive experience in managing and supervising a wide variety of law enforcement functions and personnel. Chief McClarty provides effective leadership in budgeting, community relations, directing tactical operations, hiring and training and providing oversight for the McPherson Police Department, Animal Shelter and Animal Control operations.

Chief McClarty is a graduate of the FBI's National Academy (Class #261) and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Central Christian College of Kansas. He is a Certified Public Manager from the University of Kansas Public Management Center and a graduate of the University of Kansas Public Safety Law Enforcement Leadership Academy. He is an active member of several professional organizations including the Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police (KACP), the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), the Kansas Peace Officers Association (KPOA) and the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA). He serves on the KCAP Legislative and Training Committees, the University of Kansas Law Enforcement Leadership Advisory Board and the Hutchinson Community College Criminal Justice Advisory Board. Chief McClarty holds a wide variety of instructor certifications and still enjoys teaching when the opportunity presents itself.

Chief McClarty is a man of faith who enjoys spending time with his family and volunteering his time with various civic boards. He is also a Mason both in McPherson and Lindsborg and enjoys his role as a Grand Lodge of Kansas Officer when he's not busy serving the City of McPherson as Police Chief.
