McPherson Main Street, Inc. is a non-profit, volunteer-based, membership-driven organization dedicated to revitalizing downtown McPherson through promotions, events and economic development.
McPherson Main Street was designated a Kansas Main Street Community on August 19, 1997, and was a member of the Kansas Main Street Program, admnistered by the Kansas Department of Commerce in Topeka, KS, until the state dissolved the program in October 2012. The local program has, and will, continue to operate as before, and is currently a member of National Main Street Center, created in 1978 by the National Trust for Historic Preservation with the goal of revitalizing the country’s downtown while retaining the historic integrity of the buildings therein. The Main Street approach to revitalization is a comprehensive one that works through four points: Promotion, Design, Economic Restructuring and Organization.
“The traditional commercial district is an ideal location for independent businesses, which in turn:
Keep profits in town.
Supports local families with family-owned businesses.
Supports local community projects.
Provide an extremely stable economic foundation.”
This program is supported by the investment of its’ members, various grants, and the City of McPherson. The IWW 0% loan program is supported through an agreement with the Kansas Department of Commerce.
