2019 PROJECT UPDATES: Week of October 20 - 25

Improving McPherson’s street infrastructure in an ongoing process. Project Updates 2019 provides timely information about specific projects. The intent is to keep residents informed about current projects, street closings, detours and progress. Project details and timelines can change depending on weather or project conditions. SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL PROJECT
1. Project Description or Location – Sidewalks and other improvements in the Roosevelt Elementary School neighborhood.
2. Street Closures & Detours – None
3. Construction Progress – The project is near completion. Crews hope to finish seeding within one or two days.

HARTUP STREET/ELIZABETH STREET RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT
1. Project Description or Location – Hartup Street from Avenue A to Kansas Avenue; Elizabeth Street from Hartup Street to South Park Street; Hartup Street from Kansas Avenue to East Marlin Street. Project includes sanitary sewer extensions from Hartup Street from Hancock Street to Elizabeth Street and Grand Avenue from Elizabeth Street to Hancock Street. The projects are being constructed simultaneously.
2. Street Closures & Detours – South Hartup Street is closed to thru traffic from Avenue A to Hancock Street. Local access is available from both Avenue A and Hancock Street. Local access to South Hartup Street is at Seitz Street. Park Street continues to be the detour for north and south traffic. The Grand Avenue and Hancock Street intersection is closed on the north and south sides only. Through traffic is open for eastbound and westbound. The north and south sides are closed for pavement replacement. Grand Avenue is closed to thru traffic between Elizabeth Street and Hancock Street. Local access will be allowed as pavement replacement commences. North Hartup is closed between East Marlin Street and Kansas Avenue for existing street reconstruction.
3. Construction Progress – Existing pavement was removed on North Hartup. The contractor is excavating soil subgrade and performing compaction on subgrade soil. The contractor installed sanitary sewer along Grand Avenue from Hancock Street north to the mid-block of Grand Avenue. Work also included asphalt installation in the intersection of Grand Avenue and Hancock Street. The intersection is open to eastbound and westbound traffic only.
4. Projected Street Closures & Detours – On Wednesday, October 23, the first section from Avenue A to 350 feet north will be closed on South Hartup for existing street removal and reconstruction.

PLAZA EAST PLACE RECONSTRUCTION
1. Project Description or Location – The asphalt roadway between Arby’s and Orscheln Farm & Home will be addressed. This is the access road to Mattress Hub, Applebee’s, Fairfield Inn & Suites, Days Inn and Holiday Inn Express.
2. Street Closures & Detours – The east entrance to Arby’s off Champlin Street will be closed. Access to Arby’s will be from the south entrance.
3. Construction Progress – The contractor will perform construction staking and begin installation of storm sewer sections north of the existing asphalt access road. Installation of a temporary concrete entrance south of the existing asphalt access road along Champlin will also occur.
4. Project Street Closures & Detours – To be determined

GRIMES STREET/ANNA STREET RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT
1. Project Description or Location – Drainage issues and street reconstruction will be addressed along Grimes Street. Improvements include new curb and gutter and a storm sewer pipe, which will carry water down Anna Street to be dumped into the ditch near McPherson High School.
2. Street Closures & Detours – Anna Street remains closed from North High Drive to Grimes Street. Grimes Street is closed from 1st Street to Loomis Street with Loomis Street open to traffic.
3. Construction Progress – The McPherson High School entrance on North High Drive is open to traffic. The storm and sanitary sewer was completed on Anna Street from North High Drive to the east side of the Grimes Street intersection. The 42” sanitary sewer concrete pipe was placed on Grimes Street from the north side of the Anna Street and Grimes Street intersection to Allison Street. Dirt was compacted and graded on Anna Street from North High Drive to Barber Street. Dirt was graded on Anna Street from Barber Street to the alley between Wheeler Street and Grime Street. The crushed concrete base on Anna Street was completed from North High Drive to Myers Street. Crews are now setting forms and reinforcing steel for the storm sewer b ox at the intersection of Anna Street and Grimes Street. Future work includes placing concrete for the sewer box at the Anna Street and Grimes Street intersection, storm sewer construction on Grimes Street from Allison Street to Loomis Street, crushed concrete base placement on Anna Street from Myers Street to Grimes Street and curb and gutter, sidewalk, drive entrances and street pavement construction on Anna Street from North High Drive to Grimes Street.
4. Projected Street Closures & Detours – To be determined

EAGLE’S WINGS ESTATES UNIT TWO, PHASE I PROJECT
1. Project Description or Location – Sonora Drive from East Northview Road north through Disability Supports of the Great Plains.
2. Project update – This project has been completed.

EAGLE’S WINGS ESTATES UNIT TWO, PHASE II PROJECT
1. Project Description or Location – Sonora Drive from Disability Supports to tie-in south of Wickersham Drive, Mackenzie Court and Kaiser Court.
2. Project update – This project has been completed.

HULSE DRAINAGE PROJECT
1. Project Description or Location – Ditch improvements from Main Street near Tractor Supply to 1st Street adjacent to McPherson High School. Seven box culverts will be replaced and retaining walls and ditch lining will be installed in critical areas along the channel.
2. Street Closures & Detours – Closures remaining include the driveway between Dillons and Tractor Supply, half of Myers Street north of Hulse Street, Dillons north delivery access lane and the Hulse Street and North High Drive intersection.
3. Construction Progress – Tractor Supply RCB reconstruction is underway. Channel retaining wall and ditch liner construction is underway between Grimes Street and Main Street.  These projects will continue along with RCB reconstruction on half of Myers Street.
4. Projected Street Closures & Detours – The Hulse Street & North High Drive intersection and the Dillons north delivery access lane will remain closed.
