AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF MCPHERSON, KANSAS Amending CHAPTER 90, ARTICLE II, SECTIONs 31-32 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MCPHERSON, KANSAS REGARDING the membership of the tree board
WHEREAS, the City prioritizes the recruitment and retention of volunteer residents for its various advisory boards;
WHEREAS, City residents currently volunteer to serve on the City’s park board and tree board;
WHEREAS, the park board requires seven members and the tree board requires five to seven members;
WHEREAS, the duties and responsibilities required of the park board closely align with the duties and responsibilities required of the tree board;
WHEREAS, the City can best meet its needs by consolidating the duties and responsibilities of the tree board with the duties and responsibilities of the park board; and
WHEREAS, the governing body of the City believes it is in the best interest of the City to amend the City Code to have the members of the park board serve as members of the tree board.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF MCPHERSON, KANSAS:
Section 1. Amendment of Code Sections. Chapter 90, Article II, Sections 31-32 are hereby deleted in their entirety and in their places the following is inserted:
Sec. 90-31. – Created and established.
There is hereby created and established a tree board for the City. The tree board shall consist of the City’s park board. The city forester shall serve as an advisor to the tree board.
Sec. 90-32. – Terms; vacancies.
The members of the tree board shall be appointed for terms of office identical to the terms of office of the members of the park board. Vacancies shall be filled subject to the procedures of the park board.
Section 2. Expiration of Terms of Current Members. The terms of office of the current members of the tree board shall expire as of the effective date of this ordinance.
Section 3. Repeal. All or parts of the Code conflicting with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed.
Section 4. Publication and Effective Date. This ordinance shall take effect and be in full force and effect from and after its passage, signature and publication and posting of the full text of the ordinance on the city’s website, which has been designated as the official city newspaper.
